“Strawberries”

So… about a month ago I was thinking about how much I missed coaching volleyball! Right around the same time I was asked if I could volunteer as a coach for one of the local volleyball clubs. Lori, my friend and I decided to coach together!

Well, we have a group of seventh grade girls from the city I grew up in- the Cougar cubs is our name…some of the girls are “very new to the game”… in fact, when asking the girls which position they played, one of them looked back at me and said, “shortstop.” We knew then, that we had our work cut out for us.

Last night we had practice and it was rough. They were stuck to the floor. This group of gigglers was great at chatting… but when it came to going for the ball… they were unmotivated, unfocused, and lacking heart…. So after drills -many drills, we (coaches) did the only thing left we could think of to do… we challenged them to a game... 2 on 6. Lori and I vs. a bunch of 7th graders! Oh boy, it was a sight! We were scrambling all over the place... we had a blast!

We had a great time and the girls actually moved their feet! We even managed to both pick up a few “strawberries” -aka “war wounds” on the way…. Oh they’ll be tough women by the end of our season together… “Grrr!”

We are currently undefeated 4-0… not too sure how we are doing it, but nonetheless its true. We play two matches tomorrow… we’ll see what happens!

Shantra,

Are you interested in taking on a class of 24 adorable 2nd graders? Are you interested in traveling to this part of the world for more than a visit? I'd love to hear from you!

Adam gave me your email address but I lost it. Email me ccanner@gwa.ac.ma (nonsecure)

Blessings,
Cyndi
